The Kindle Paperwhite would also be an option, I quite like the form factor, but then I’d still be with Amazon even though I’m trying to transition away from it. I’m aware that it would be the same with the Kobo, but with the Kindle it felt frustrating because in theory it would be able to via the send to Kindle Mail, but then I wouldn’t have any covers etc. I used to push my books to my old paperwhite via Calibre, which worked fine, but it kind of bugged me that it then wouldn’t sync with my iPad. At the same time I’m not quite sure whether I’ll be completely satisfied with a 6” screen, since most paperbacks are like 9” across. Yeah I really have a hard time deciding unfortunately :( I thought the iPad Mini would solve my issues because it’s highly compatible with Epub, but it just doesn’t completely meet my needs because I love reading outdoors (for which it is too expensive, too heavy and too LED). I do not have any hands on experience with these devices. *My conclusions come from me watching many YouTube videos because I am considering a very similar purchase ( debating between a Kindle Paperwhite 11th gen, Clara 2e, and Libra 2). I plan to do the same if I get a Kobo and make the epubs Kepubs, but it you don't want to do that then it would also be more straightforward for you to just get a Kobo and transfer files. I use Calibre software to move books I bought in epub format to the Kindle, so it's never been a problem for me that it does not play well with epub. If you don't want to buy from Amazon at all (totally understandable) then I would say the Clara 2e is a tried and tested form factor and so I would pick that one. If you do not care about warm light and don't need/want the bigger screen, the Kindle basic is a great deal. If you like reading with a big font you might also enjoy the bigger screen. Some love them and some end up not using them often enough to consider them a valuable feature. The buttons seem to be a mixed bag for people. If you read PDFs, comics, or manga often enough, the Libra 2 would probably be nicer for that due to the bigger screen. It's the only feature I consider my 2015 6-inch Kindle Paperwhite to be truly missing, and thus I am considering a Clara 2e myself. In the long run I do think that is worth extra, for the comfort of the eyes. Personally, I would go for one of the Kobos because you can change the color temperature of the light if you read a lot at night, you can't do that with a basic Kindle, unfortunately. But I don’t know whether’s that’s enough to warrant paying the extra money? I have a new iPad Mini but I just don’t like reading on that screen that much. The Kindle completely commits to portability (which I like, but is not a must to me), and the Libra 2 to the reading experience (page turn buttons, larger screen). The Clara therefore has a little bit of a weird standing since it has many of the same features as the basic kindle, but a larger footprint with the same screen size. The Basic Kindle would set me back around 100€, probably less because of Amazon’s frequent deals, the Clara 2e 150€, and the Libra 2 190€. Generally, I’d rather have a Kobo than a Kindle, because I don’t want to support Amazon more than is necessary. Also, my dad owns a Kobo which is quite old (I think an Aura) and the longevity of the device just really impressed me. Before I had the 10th gen Kindle paperwhite, but it was really sluggish, and since basically I only read EPUB the lack of support was relatively frustrating to me. I’m debating between the basic Kindle 2022, the Kobo Libra 2 and the Kobo Clara 2E.
